Anchoring as a Full Time Career

“The right track you choose, the perfect destination you reach”
Early involvement in anchoring and hosting tons of shows.
This is my success mantra. Right from my childhood, I was quite outspoken and active in extracurricular activities like debate, quiz, drama, mono acting, etc. I won many prizes in these on district-level during school and college days. I started anchoring in my college functions and other programs and enjoyed it very much. Many people told me that I had those qualities of a good anchor and that I should take it forward as a full-time career. I was also passionate towards anchoring, but then nobody in my family was from the glamour world and my educational background was also quite unrelatable. My father was strict about my education and he told me to concentrate on my education first.
I did B.Sc in Foods & Nutrition from MS University Vadodra. I did a Diploma in Yoga and Naturopathy from Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi. Then I went to France for an internship in Alternative therapies. When I came back from France, I got an offer from Sachin Limye and Ashita Limye for anchoring in a show. I accepted the offer and this was the first major break in my career. I realized that I could not be happy with a career in whatever I had studied and anchoring was the best career option for me. The reason is that not only I was good at anchoring, but also it gave me immense pleasure and satisfaction. From then onwards, there was no looking back. I have hosted lots of shows like dance shows, musical evenings, social functions, pre-wedding events, corporate events, etc globally. I have worked with lots of Bollywood celebrities like Zeenat Aman, Radhika Apte, Rimi Sen, Malaika Arora, Emran Hashmi, Arman Malik, Soha Ali Khan and the list goes on. I have also worked with music celebrities like Bhoomi Trivedi, Vishal Kothari, etc and television stars like Disha Vakani, Shailesh Lodha, Amar Upadhyay, etc. Recently, I hosted the Living Legend Concert of Laxmikant-Pyarelal. I must say that I have been lucky enough to get a family who supported me throughout my journey. After getting married, my husband and my in-laws had been very cooperative. In fact, I have progressed more in my career after marriage.
Skilled required to become a successful anchor.
Now, you will have questions in your mind like what are the skills required to become a successful anchor, what are the career growth prospects, etc. I am providing you with the answers. To become a successful anchor, three major factors are required.
- Presence of Mind
- Sense of Humour
- Good vocabulary content
Anchoring is more of a passion. One should not choose to anchor as a career option just by getting tempted towards the glamour world. Anchoring is way different from what it seems to be. The anchor has a major role in making the show successful. The anchor should have a good command over local languages. It’s certainly not mandatory to be fluent in the English language to be a successful anchor. At the same time, knowledge of the English language is an added benefit. Other than this, one should have a sharp voice and clear pronunciation. The anchor should have the ability to keep the audience engaged if there are any unforeseen circumstances, for example, the late arrival of the chief guest. The anchor should have the capability to handle the audience regardless of their total count, be it 500 or 50,000 with dignity.
As far as earning is concerned, sufficient earning is there. You earn more and more with time and experience. Even if you begin with a small show and you handle it well, automatically you will gain mouth to mouth publicity. You will get to travel to different places and meet new people. I can say that it is a wise choice to be an anchor if you are passionate about it and ready to work hard for that. I hope, I have explained the details of making a career in anchoring.
