Quitting‌ ‌Big‌ ‌Corporate‌ ‌Jobs‌ ‌for‌ ‌Dog‌ ‌Retreats

Quitting‌ ‌Big‌ ‌Corporate‌ ‌Jobs‌ ‌for‌ ‌Dog‌ ‌Retreats

At any social function when people ask what do I do, very proudly I say - " I work with dogs". There is a social stigma when it comes to women who are educated, they are supposed to work in offices, schools or stay at home as a mother. In the canine world, men are supposed to work with dogs but women can't.

Working‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌dogs.

I come from a family where everyone is an engineer and MBA degree holder. I also did graduation and masters in mass communication and journalism. Worked for big corporate houses for 8 years before I found my calling. I was introduced to dogs by my husband post marriage and slowly they became my life. I left my cushiony job to work with dogs. It's been 4 years now, I started the first Dog retreat in Gujarat, rescued 200+ dogs and rehomed. Worked with very aggressive dogs, fell down, got up again and tried harder to understand.

Life is not about limited choices that we get in school, colleges, even in offices. If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise.

‌Unconventional‌ ‌career‌ ‌path‌ ‌comes‌ ‌with‌ ‌risks.

There is no sure guarantee for success when you chase your calling. It takes a lot of courage and ability to take failures. People get surprised when they hear how after 8 years I left my job, people talked initially how I am so naive and stupid. But after 4 years I know I made the right choice. When you chase your calling, do your research before diving into the sea. Know your market, know your risks and take a plunge when you are ready.

Choosing an unconventional career always comes with risk but my education, research about the pet sector which is booming in India and clear perspective made things easier. There are no set formulas for success but that doesn't mean one should stop trying and not dream different from others. Courage and hard work is the only way to chase your calling. So don't disconnect, don't think of any idea insignificant because no idea is small. If your dreams are different, chase that dream because nobody else is going to do that except you.
