Talent Development in Remote Areas

As they say, the foundation of our passion lies somewhere in our days of growing up. Sachin, a social worker, grew up around the family working for social causes wherein his sister being MSW and had worked with UNICEF was an inspiration to him. Sharing his story he says,
Being a social activist and getting started with running your own NGO.
While growing up, the urge of serving people kept increasing in me and I would only think about how could I become the helping hand for the needy ones. I discussed with my friends about what could we do for the betterment of poor children and we ended up deciding on going to the Basti post school hours or setting up a small Free tuition Centre to teach underprivileged and poor children. We wanted to help them with a platform to showcase their hidden talents and to nurture them.
In my college days, having my interest in social service boosting, I joined National Service Scheme (NSS). NSS helped me with a new horizon to build a team for social causes and spreading awareness about it. The team started working for the causes like education and food for poor people. We focused on bringing out the hidden talent of children as we believed that every child has some interest and spark and thus we later started Pratibha Group in 2006.
We pinned down the locations and started the social activities and teaching on streets like Fatehganj, Kalyan Nagar, Sayajiganj and Tarsali. Then came a time when idea of NGO became really popular in the city. This local support gave us enough confidence and we commenced our services in small villages like Dana, Bajwa, Gorwa and Manjalpur. There are villages with muslim majority where education revolves around religious boundaries and girls aren't sent to schools.
Flaws in our traditional education system and ways to tackle them.
As I teach both rural and urban students, I found a glitch in our traditional education system wherein the teacher explains everything on the board and students copy it down but do not interact enough the way we do in our centres where we sit on the floor with students. It helps as an ice-breaker as well as opens the doors of friendship and understanding. I found one another new method of teaching Mathematics and English by involving games and activities like singing and painting. I've noticed major improvement in their communication skills since then. Our NGO welcomes the volunteers so it allows us to reach diverse subjects and fields. These volunteers help us nurturing the children for their respective interests under expertise.
Post being appreciated by everyone for my work, I decided to get Pratibha Foundation registered as an NGO on 28 April 2011 and led with various projects for the NGO. Along with my social work centres, I was simultaneously working as a Senior Sales Manager in an Insurance Company. But that real job and a handsome salary never made me feel contented and I quit the job in 2014. Now I work full time with Pratibha Foundation. We have our core committee and we often organize fund raising events around the city.
In a recently organised painting competition by us, over 500 children had participated and we continue our efforts to reach as many as possible in near future. I had never thought of Pratibha Foundation reaching such heights. We also consider taking in interns. More than 500 interns have worked with us so far belonging to 32 different countries like Japan, Russia, Australia, New Zeland and Brazil.
Sachin's story is an inspiration to many and an example in its own for choosing a selfless path for his own contentment.
